5th Class have been very very busy this term with plenty of activities! In April, we got the chance to do a few weeks of Tag Rugby with Noel which was great fun. We got to improve our rugby skills in passing, diving and playing lots of mini games.
Neurodiversity Day was also celebrated in April where we learned all about what Neurodiversity is and all about how each of our brains works differently. We really enjoyed watching videos about it, playing various games and getting the chance to play with lots of sensory materials and activities.
We were very lucky to have Ms Maher in our class for April and May teaching us lots of amazing lessons that we really enjoyed! These included Climate Change, Fair Trade, Renewable Energy, Exploration and Tom Crean – to name but a few.
We also got to do some lovely Drama, Music and Art lessons including designing our own storyboards and then bringing it to life using clay. These were absolutely fantastic! We got to practice our Orienteering skills which involved following directions and using maps. This was thoroughly enjoyable and might be a helpful skill for us in the future.
We would like to thank Ms Maher for all her amazing effort, kindness and help over the 5 weeks and we wish her all the best going forward!
In May we also got an important talk from the Kilkenny Cycle Clinic on general road safety when we are out cycling. They showed us how to check our bike before venturing out on the roads and also how we can repair our bikes in rapid time if we get a puncture! This was great fun.

We have also become brilliant programmers in 5th Class this year! We have been using Scratch on the Chromebooks where we have been learning the basic skills of how to code. We have had a great time designing our own games and programs and also learning to debug programs when they aren’t working. This has brought huge enjoyment to the class and is also a brilliant skill for us to learn to help with our problem solving skills and for everything in the future!

A big congratulations to Sarah and Isabelle who represented our class on the girls Camogie Team who won the Roinn D Shield Final against Graiguenamanagh/Skeough on the 28th of May. The girls played a great game and we are very proud of you all – a huge achievement!

On the 29th of May we headed off on the school trip that we had been eagerly awaiting all year long and what a day it was!! We went all the way down to Dunmore East Adventure Centre and we got to do some rock climbing, caving, archery as well as the Wibit! The best part might have been pushing the teachers in the water! Lots of laughter and smiles - a day we definitely won’t forget!

To finish off the year, we have put in a huge effort into preparing and presenting our ‘Teach the Teacher’ projects in class. This has been a great success and we have all enjoyed teaching our classmates as well as Ms Hickey! Everybody chose something different to teach and we all have learned loads of new information and skills. Some topics included; Space, Becoming your own Entrepreneur, Skincare, How to service a car, The History of the John Deere, The Munich Air Disaster and many more! The effort put into these projects has been absolutely phenomenal.

We also had great fun during Active Week. We were very lucky to get the chance to complete so many amazing activities with lots of different people over the week. We got to do Line Dancing with Deirdre, Rugby with Noel, Circuit Classes with James, Gymnastics with Caoimhe as well as Soccer with Will. On top of all this we got a visit from the Ice Cream truck and topped the week off with a brilliant sports Day over in Evergreen FC on Friday. What a way to end the year!

5TH Class are looking forward to a well-deserved break and we hope everyone has a lovely summer too!
