Hello from all our new Junior Infants! The children have been settling in well to school life in Church Hill NS! As part of an integrated approach to SESE and PE (Outdoor Adventure- Walking) we all took a walking tour around the school in their first week to visit all the areas and classrooms and meet all the staff and students. We explored the Recount genre in Literacy and we did some oral, pictorial and shared writing recounting our First Day at School!

In Maths Junior Infants have been learning to classify/sort objects into sets, making and spotting patterns and 2-Dimensional Shapes in the environment. We also loved participating in a fun filled Maths Week, where we went on Shape Hunts, made shape murals and we got to estimate “How many Jellies in a Jar?” Thanks to Ms Garrahy, for all her hard work designing such a fun Maths Trail for us. We loved working with 3rd Class Buddies to solve all the Maths Clues!

We took advantage of the lovely autumn weather and took our learning outside as much as possible. We went on a Nature Walk and used all the beautiful autumnal coloured leaves and seeds and some sticks and stones to create Mandala Art Designs. We have enjoyed playing co-operation games in PE in September and doing lots of running in October, which was great practice for the Pink Run! We love having Playdough discos to build up our fine motor skills and our favourite time during the day is when we have movement breaks to some lively tunes like “Shake the Sillies Out” and “The Flamingo Dance” with Danny Go!

We are all looking forward to some Spooky Fun for Hallowe’en Dress Up Day.
Enjoy the Hallowe’en Break everyone!
