A big hello from all our new Junior Infants, who have settled so well into life in Church Hill NS!
We have had an exciting few months learning all about our new school and class routines. We have had lots of fun playing and learning together. We especially love learning in our Aistear Stations, where we explore a different theme each month. September was all things “Myself and My Family!” and this month’s theme is “Fun on the Farm”.
We learn through a variety of Aistear Stations including; Roleplay (Farm Shop), Small World (Roleplay with farm toys), Playdough (making food for the Farm Shop, Water Play (cleaning the animals), Construction (using lego/polydrons to make barns, chicken coops, farmhouses, tractors etc). We also have Sand Play and Art & Craft Stations depending on the theme.

This month we have been very lucky to be given the opportunity to raise some baby chicks from The Nore Valley Farm Incubator Project!
We have become “EGGSPERTS” on the life cycle of the chicken and how to care for the chicks.
We were delighted to have 4 healthy, baby chicks hatch after 21 days in the incubator!
Our classroom is filled with lovely chirpy sounds for the past week from our happy little chicks!
They have been learning phonics, sets of 1 and 2 and all about Bia in Gaeilge from the children!

The children have also enjoyed our Music Generation lessons with Lilian. We are learning all about percussion instruments this month.
Our favourite book this month was “The Little Red Hen”. We have read it at least 10 times! We did Reader’s Theatre Sessions once the children became familiar with some of the dialogue and we used stick puppets of the hen, the dog, the duck and the cat to act out the story!

We are looking forward to Maths Week this week and our Halloween Dress up at the end of term!
