Second & Third Class

Term 3 kicked off in style as we eagerly returned to our weekly swimming lessons, keeping the momentum going right through to the 7th of May. In P.E., we improved our orienteering skills, navigating maps and working as a team.

Our studies in S.E.S.E. took us deep into the rainforest, where we delved into the incredible world of diverse animal habitats. Presenting our findings to the class was a highlight, as was our special guest appearance by some little caterpillars, leading to the magical transformation into butterflies. The release of 8 butterflies into the school garden brought about a wave of excitement among us all. We created beautiful Monarch butterflies to complete our topic.

2nd Class dedicated their efforts towards preparing for their First Holy Communion, a significant milestone that was joyously celebrated on the 11th of May.

Engaging in STEM challenges was both educational and great fun, with tasks such as creating paper chains and building bridges that could withstand some serious weight. Witnessing our creations hold dictionaries and even carrying our weight showed that we were truly engineers in the making.

Participating in the lunchtime basketball league fostered a sense of friendship and teamwork across different classes from 1st to 3rd, which was a memorable experience for all involved. A sunny afternoon provided the perfect backdrop for an outdoor reading lesson, where we eagerly shared our favourite books with one another.

Excursions to Redhills Adventure Centre and SETU Waterford added an extra layer of fun and excitement to our days, with activities like Splatball and archery leaving lasting memories.

As we wrapped up Term 3 with Active Schools Week, we embraced a variety of sports, from line dancing to rugby, culminating in a spirited Sports Day despite a bit of rain towards the end.

We have had a fantastic year where we learned a lot whilst having plenty of fun. We worked on our Persuasive writing, poetry and narrative writing skills in English. We learned all about shapes and the measures in Maths and d’fhoglaimíomar faoi Sa Bhaile, an Teilifís agus Siopadóireacht inar gceachtanna Gaeilge. We are ready for our summer holidays where we will recharge our batteries and spend time with our families.
