Fourth Class

4th Class have had a really busy start to the year.

In Literacy we worked on recount and report in English and Gaeilge. We published recounts based on trips we have taken and a time we were sick. For our Gaeilge reports we wrote about our school and for English we all selected an inspiring woman to research and write about. We selected a really wide range of people from sports stars to singers, political figures to historical figures. One thing we realised when we were doing our research is that every person we chose faced obstacles in their lives and all of their stories have taught us the importance of believing in ourselves and never giving up!

In SESE we learned about transport and energy. We had great fun designing and making our own sail cars. As part of our SESE work we were also looking at the history of our own families. We interviewed our parents and grandparents to learn more about their lives when they were our age. We also did projects about our families. Some of us researched our family trees and others looked at the lives of one or two people in our family. We learned lots of new information about our families and put huge work into creating wonderful displays which will be on view in our classroom.

As a class we took part in the Green Schools Design a Mascot competition. We had to create our own mascot whose job it was to teach children about Green Schools and the Sustainable Development Goals. Some of our mascots featured on the Green Schools Youtube channel and Caleb and Barry were finalists for the overall prize. In Art we have been doing lots of work with painting and we also enjoyed our art workshop with our visiting artist Paul.

We also really enjoyed taking part in Maths Week 2025. We had loads of fun working with Senior Infants and the Pre-School classes on our school Maths trails. We loved making our own Maths boardgames and playing them with our friends.

In PE we started the term with orienteering, which we quickly discovered required a lot of listening, attention to detail and team work! We then moved on to athletics and had fun doing relays and throwing activities.

It has definitely been a very busy first two months of the year and we are all looking forward to our Mid-Term break.
